EastEnders star James Bye reckons Martin Fowler is “over the moon" about having a new baby on the way – despite what Martin said! - and promises "juicy" storylines are on the way

EastEnders star James Bye reckons Martin Fowler is “over the moon” about having a new baby on the way – despite Martin making a shock statement about his unborn child in the soap in Tuesday’s episode.

The 33-year-old actor, who plays Martin in the BBC1 soap, said that his alter ego has always wanted his “own little family” with Stacey.

“He’s over the moon, this is what he’s wanted ever since he came back to the Square.  He’s wanted his own little family and Martin and Stacey, in relationship terms, are in a really good place.  The baby’s come at as good a time as any so he’s really excited.  He’s scared as all Dad’s would be, but he’s in a really good place.”

Meanwhile, James reckons that despite all the problems they’re facing, Martin and Stacey are a strong couple.

“What’s lovely about Martin and Stacey is that the more problems they face and the bigger stakes they are, the stronger they get,” he explained.

“They seem to react really well to outside pressure.  When Carmel gets involved, they become stronger as a unit – they don’t start bickering with each other they just work together and I think that’s why they work so well together as a couple.”

But don’t expect everything to turn into happy families, as Martin added that there’s a “juicy” storyline coming up for the pair.

“We’ve had a really lovely year for Martin and Stacey, they’ve had a relatively peaceful year and that’s nice to play. It’s great to have a couple on the Square that are happy, but at the end of the day, we’re both actors and we love to get our teeth into a big storyline and what’s coming up is as juicy as we’ve had.”
