Wow! Isn't Maisie Smith growing up fast? The 15-year-old from EastEnders star talks about her singing career
Maisie Smith, best known as young Tiffany Butcher in EastEnders, tells us about her new music career and releasing her first single…
Goodness Maisie, you’ve changed since we last saw you in EastEnders!
“I know! I’ve changed so much it actually makes me laugh. I’m releasing my first single on 25 November. It’s called Good Thing and there’s been a great reaction to it, so far. I’m really happy with the way it’s come together.”
How did it come about?
“Me and my producer, Darren Martin, were thinking of some songs to write and I didn’t want anything too cliched about love because I’m still only 15. I wanted something that people could sing and dance to, which was about how good something in your life is going.”
What made you decide to become a singer?
“I’ve always loved singing, but it’s only in the last year that I’ve really had a passion for it. I was the lead in my school play and I loved it so much. After that I really wanted to pursue a career in performing.”

Who are your major influences?
“My favourite performer is Christina Aguilera. She’s just got an incredible voice and she can act and she can dance, too. Another one is Ariana Grande. She’s brilliant.”
Do you prefer singing to acting?
“I love both. I couldn’t pick one over the other. I’d just love to pursue a career that allows me to sing, dance, act and express all of my passions and still make a success of myself.”
Are you too busy to watch EastEnders these days?
“I don’t watch much TV as I’m quite busy, but I love to tune in to see what’s going on when I get the chance. I do like to keep in touch with a lot of my on-screen family, especially on social media so I’m always messaging them and asking how things are going and what they’re doing.”
