Former EastEnders star Sid Owen is to star in a touring show, Carnaby Street The Musical.
The 41-year-old, who is best known for playing Ricky Butcher in the BBC soap and for participating in the last series of Strictly Come Dancing, will portray Jumpin’ Jack Flash, the hopeful manager of the C-St Band who is trying to make some money on the streets of 1960s Soho.
Verity Rushworth, who previously played Donna Dingle in ITV show Emmerdale, will also star as Penny Lane.
Set in London’s West End in the Sixties, with its iconic clubs, fashion and characters, Carnaby Street tells the story of Jude, a working class boy from Liverpool who arrives in London with best friend Penny in search of fame and fortune.
After a chance encounter with Jack Flash, Jude joins a band and dreams of making it big. The musical, which is directed by Bob Thomson, features hits by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Searchers and The Kinks.
Carnaby Street The Musical will premiere at the Hackney Empire from April 6 to 14, prior to a UK tour.
