Emmerdale's Robert Sugden to see the error of his ways as show boss reveals he will hit rock bottom before turning over a new leaf

Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod has revealed that village bad boy Robert Sugden will see the error of his ways and vow to put an end to his scheming.

The ruthless businessman, played by Ryan Hawley, is currently trying to seize control of Home Farm – a plot which has recently seen him trick ex father-in-law Lawrence White into thinking they slept together, and secretly buying into the business using the company name Rug Tree Bonds – an anagram of Robert Sugden.

Speaking at an Emmerdale press event about the White family’s impending departure from the soap, Iain said that it would be connected to a story in which Robert will re-assess his dodgy dealings, and decide to live his life differently.

Teased Iain: “(their departure) emerges from what Robert is doing at the moment on screen. It’ll be big and dramatic and hopefully quite surprising.

“It’s part of an ultimate redemption story for Robert, where he kind of feels like he’s hit rock bottom in terms of all the dastardly things he’s done over the years, and determines to start trying to live a bit differently and deal with things a bit differently.”

And it seems Robert’s efforts change will be a success, because Iain has also revealed that he and ex Aaron Dingle will become closer over Christmas, leading to a wedding in the Summer of 2018.
