The end of the world is nigh, according to this bright and breezy blockbuster starring John Cusack and Amanda Peet.
They play a separated couple brought together when the Earth’s core heats up, causing volcano-earthquake-tsunami hell.
Luckily, there’s a fast car and a handy plane to jet them, their kids and her tetchy new boyfriend across cracking highways, melting runways and tumbling skyscrapers as they effortlessly make their way to safety, thanks to a handy escape map left by eccentric Woody Harrelson.
Cusack makes an appealing hero and Harrelson’s a hoot, while Chiwetel Ejiofor’s earnest, whistleblowing scientist and Oliver Platt’s oily politician make the most of their scenes.
An old-style disaster movie that moves at a fast and furious pace, making for good, no-brainer entertainment.
