It’s 32 years since Mr and Mrs Griswold (Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo) took their family on holiday in National Lampoon’s Vacation. Now their irrepressibly chipper grown-up son, Rusty (Ed Helms), is determined to take his wife, Debbie (Christina Applegate) and quarrelling sons, sensitive, guitar-strumming James (Skyler Gisondo) and psychotic, bullying younger brother Kevin (Steele Stebbins) on a family bonding trip to Walley World theme park – with similarly hysterically disastrous results. The cast also includes Leslie Mann as Rusty’s sister and Chris Hemsworth, having lots of fun as his farcically well-endowed weatherman brother-in-law, plus neat cameos from Chase and D’Angelo. Everyone makes the most of the steady stream of gags, which include a priceless gross-out bathing experience and many jokes at the expense of their dreadful car, a clunky, gas-guzzling minivan with a sat nav that barks out orders in an angry Korean voice.
