Grumpy 37-year-old Matthew Perry thinks he’s made a mess of his life but magically turns 17 again and becomes Zac Efron.
This gives him a chance to go back to high school, play basketball, fall for his wife and one true love, Leslie Mann, who he’s currently divorcing, all over again and sort out his troubled teen kids (Sterling Knight and Michelle Trachtenberg).
This is an amusing and amiable fantasy. Though the pleasant script sometimes lacks freshness and oomph, it does deliver lots of laughs, mainly from Thomas Lennon as Efron/Perry’s inappropriate best friend, and Melora Hardin, as the uptight school principal.
But it is Efron who carries the movie and it his effortlessly charming, super likeable performance that makes this so enjoyable.
