An ideally cast Hayden Christensen is compelling as a young capital-investment company boss with a heart condition who isn’t fully anaesthetised when he has a transplant.

Conscious but paralysed, he overhears a plot to murder him…

It’s smart, well-acted, intriguing and involving, though the scary drama about awareness during anesthesia is potentially far more interesting than the cheesy and preposterous murder conspiracy thriller it becomes.

The acting’s classy all round, and Lena Olin is especially effective as Christensen’s mother.

If the film doesn’t quite come together at the end,  it certainly keeps you awake for its short running time.
