The aftershock of a tragic accident ripples through a depressed blue-collar community in wintry small-town Maine in this sober drama starring Amy Morgan.

Creating a downbeat mood to match the film’s icy landscapes, first-time writer-director Lance Edmands avoids attention-grabbing melodrama, but the performances he gets from his fine ensemble cast are full of minute observation and psychological insight.

Morton and John Slattery are terrific in the leading roles, while Adam Driver makes his mark in a small supporting part.
