In the 30 years from the end of World War Two to the mid-1970s, half a million British women – most of whom were unmarried and many of whom were pressured into it – had their babies adopted.

This Exposure documentary, which at times echoes the true-life 2013 film Philomena starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, reveals for the first time the stories of some of the women who were pushed into the hardest decisions of their lives by the Church and the State, as decades of  silence come to an end.
