Sharon Horgan has gone Stateside. The co-creator of C4’s Catastrophe pens this superlative HBO black comedy starring Sex and the City’s Sarah Jessica Parker.

After attending an unbearably awful 50th birthday party, Frances (Parker) realises she’s not happy and tells Robert (a perfectly cast Thomas Haden Church) their marriage is over, which triggers the first two stages of grief: denial (an ill-advised attempt at reigniting the passion) and then anger (‘You’re Jesse James and I get to be Sandra Bullock and… rise from the ashes of humiliation’).

Jemaine Clement and Molly Shannon stand out among the supporting cast.
