The British Legion’s salute to those who gave so much.
Mixing light entertainment with the solemn business of remembering the dead is a tough ask, but this annual festival from the Royal Albert Hall gets the tone about right.
The presence of the Queen helps, of course, as does the moving sight of the poppy petal shower, each petal representing a man or woman who has given their life for their country from World War One up to the present.
Alfie Boe, Lesley Garrett, Tom Odell, Melanie Chisholm and Emeli Sandé are among those joining the Queen’s Colour Squadron and the Royal Marines Band and making sure the evening goes with a bounce while Huw Edwards is on presenting duty.
A touching yet upbeat tribute and a lovely evening.
