Edward Norton has a good job, a swish flat and everything that money can buy. But he’s still unhappy, can’t sleep and sees the world through corrosively cynical eyes. Then he meets charismatic loner Brad Pitt and, via sundry punch-ups in their new secret Fight Club, becomes a changed man.

The first rule when watching this movie is, don’t take it too seriously – it’s supposed to be funny. Director David Fincher’s satire on modern materialism boasts razor-sharp dialogue and a final twist you won’t see coming.

Norton’s sour-faced performance is great, Pitt is hugely entertaining and Helena Bonham Carter also makes her role count.
