It’s a fishy week for the Inside the Factory team as a new series gets under way following a Christmas one-off. Ruth Goodman follows the history of the fish finger, which was originally an American product called a fish stick.

Bird’s Eye introduced them to the UK in 1955, and they were an instant hit. Cherry Healey heads to Grindavik in Iceland to see how the processing plant handles the 50 tonnes of cod it lands each day.

In Grimbsy, Gregg Wallace is at the factory that produces 80,000 fish fingers every day, and is on hand to witness the arrival of the huge blocks of compressed frozen fish that will become fish fingers.
