This fiendishly clever thriller sees motel guest Guy Pearce suffering from anterograde amnesia, which means he can’t form new memories and every time he wakes up, he’s forgotten everything that’s happened the day before.

So he takes Polaroid pictures of people he meets, makes notes and tattoos cryptic messages on his body in an effort to track down his wife’s murderer.

However, that makes him vulnerable to everyone who he can’t remember, such as Joe Pantoliano and Carrie-Anne Moss, who could just as easily be enemies as friends.

The tantalising plot of writer-director Christopher Nolan’s dense and subtly plotted thriller intriguingly unfolds in reverse and, though you need to keep your wits about you, it is well worth the attention it demands.
