Morale was so low in the British 14th Army as they fought the Japanese in Burma and India during World War Two, the Ministry of Defence sent a camera crew out to film the troops recording personal messages for their families back home. Hundreds of these films were recently rediscovered in the basement of Manchester Town Hall, and the amazing footage is the centrepiece of this poignant documentary. The filmmakers have managed to track down some of the families of the troops, who are amazed to watch their (often long-gone) loved ones on screen. The 14th Army became known as ‘The Forgotten Army’, but it’s warmly remembered here.
