‘Pretty woman… are you lonely just like me?’ Roy Orbison’s songs touched anyone who ever came off second best on the field of love.

BBC4’s double-bill begins with One of the Lonely Ones, a valuable biography of the ‘rock ‘n’ roll Caruso’, followed at 10.00pm by A Black and White Night, a TV special recorded in 1988, the year of the Big O’s death at 52.

Though a distracted robot seems to have edited it, it’s got all the hits, sung from the heart by Roy, and guests including Bruce Springsteen.
