An ambitious logging magnate (Bradley Cooper) and his ruthless wife (Jennifer Lawrence) wrestle with greed, jealousy and fate.

Set in the North Carolina mountains of the late-1920s and early-1930s, the packed, melodramatic plot is crammed with bear and panther hunts, rattlesnake bites and a string of murders. But, surprisingly, the film fails to come alive.

That said, Cooper and Lawrence are a dream team, the strong supporting cast includes Rhys Ifans and Toby Jones and the lush forest landscapes are handsome.
