Historian Lucy Worsley loves to rummage around in the dressing-up box, and she’s clearly enjoying herself as she becomes a housemaid, a lady-in-waiting and a female member of the gardening staff at Hampton Court Palace in this new historical docu-drama.

In the three-parter, Lucy offers a fresh take on Henry VIII’s six wives by eavesdropping on events in the Tudor monarch’s court in the dramatised sections. In a world ruled by men, Lucy reveals how the women wielded power.

First up is Catherine of Aragon, ‘whose reputation is in serious need of rehabilitation’, and Anne Boleyn, whom Lucy sees as ‘a modern person trapped in a Tudor body’.
