The Brothers Grimm’s fairy-tale princess is transformed from damsel in distress to kick-ass action-movie heroine (Kristen Stewart).

In this gritty and atmospheric fantasy adventure, Stewart’s Snow White is imprisoned by her evil stepmother (Charlize Theron) but escapes into the Dark Forest. There, Chris Hemsworth’s troubled huntsman teams up with her and, with the help of eight dwarfs, they are soon storming the castle.

Stewart looks glum rather than feisty and there is no chemistry between her and Hemsworth.

However, the dwarfs, played by the likes of Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Nick Frost and Eddie Marsan, provide some light relief, Theron puts on a good show and the film looks great.
