Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell go head-to-head as psychic antagonists in a suspenseful supernatural thriller. Hopkins is a psychic investigator dragged out of retirement to help FBI agents Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Abbie Cornish catch Farrell’s serial killer. Hopkins deduces that the killer shares his psychic gift and is only targeting the terminally ill. The premise couldn’t be hokier but Hopkins lends it conviction and when he finally goes up against Farrell in the film’s final third, their scenes crackle with energy. Briefly intriguing, the issue of mercy killing gets shunted aside, however, in favour of chases and shootouts, but the action is stylishly shot and, in places, genuinely gripping.
