Jon Voight’s veteran rancher discovers that grudge-bearing millionaire rival James Caan is behind a plot to snatch the land that has been in his family for generations.

This sudsy melodrama boasts a noteworthy cast – Teri Polo, Melanie Griffith and Steven Bauer all feature in supporting roles – but neither the long-simmering central feud nor a skein of subplots amount to very much.

Along the way, Voight’s crusty hero takes pops at interfering federal bureaucrats and pesky greens, which gives you an idea where the film is coming from.
