Denzel Washington’s freelance righter of wrongs cracks open a can of whup-ass on a bunch of bad ‘uns in this ultra-violent update of the 1980s Edward Woodward TV series.

Seemingly a humble worker in a Boston DIY store, Washington is actually a former black ops agent living in self-imposed retirement. But he brushes off his commando skills to come to the aid of Chloë Grace Moretz’s troubled prostitute and mete out retribution to her vicious Russian pimp and his thugs.

This is brutal, long and utterly humourless but, whether using household objects and power tools to dispatch his foes or walking away from explosions without so much was a flinch, Washington pulls off his role with cool aplomb.
