Bruce Willis is a troubled psychologist haunted by his failure to save a patient. So, when sad little Haley Joel Osment claims ‘I see dead people’, he is desperate to get to the bottom of the boy’s troubles.

Writer-director M Night Shyamalan subtly manipulates his audience through mood and atmosphere rather than blood and gore, although there are a few truly hair-raising scares.

The famous twist ending is the making of the movie, but it is the affecting performances from Willis and Osment that keep you glued to the screen.
