Comfortably married to Richard Gere for 11 years, Diane Lane nevertheless falls into a passionate affair with Olivier Martinez.

Based on Claude Chabrol’s 1968 film, La Femme Infidèle, this marvellously well-observed and smoulderingly intense movie is more a subtle character study than a taut thriller.

The sexy love scenes, glossy filming and a brilliant payoff are accompanied by delicious acting all round.

Oscar-nominated Lane is a knockout as her moods swing back and forth between guilt and exhilaration, while Gere gives a subtle, heartrending performance as the wronged man.
