Liam Neeson brings his usual gruff charisma to the role of ex-cop-turned-private eye Matt Scudder in this dark crime thriller.

Based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels, Scudder’s client is a heroin trafficker (Dan Stevens), who wants him to track down the men who kidnapped and then murdered his wife.

The ensuing intrigue has a distinctly old-fashioned air, but even when the plot gets a little too pat Neeson is always compelling.
