Robert Pattinson launches new movie

Robert Pattinson was welcomed by hordes of screaming fans as he stepped out in London for the premiere of his new movie Remember Me.

The British actor, who shot to fame in the Twilight films, signed autographs and greeted fans, many of whom were chanting his name, as he hit the red carpet in Leicester Square.

The star admitted he was still to get used to his popularity, saying: "I never go to places where crowds congregate, so it's always a novelty - it's a completely separate aspect of my life, it's nice."

In the film, Pattinson plays Tyler, a young man living in New York in the wake of a family tragedy, who falls in love with kindred spirit Ally, played by Lost star Emilie de Ravin.

The actor credited the massive success of the vampire franchise for helping cast light on his film and on The Runaways, which stars Twilight actress Kristen Stewart.

"They're both little independent films. The idea that Twilight can help little independent films push through Alice In Wonderland and £100 million budgets is nice."

De Ravin praised her co-star, saying: "We were both completely passionate about this project and did everything we could to make it as good as we could. He's a really nice person and very talented."

She said promised the movie would 'really touch people'.

Actor Thomas Sangster and The Inbetweeners actress Emily Atack were among the other celebrities on the red carpet.
