Cory Monteith's Glee character 'to be killed off'
Cory Monteith's Glee character Finn Hudson will be killed off in the next series of the show, following the actor's unexpected death last week.
Series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that Finn will bow out in a special episode paying tribute to the late actor, before the show takes a break to assess how to proceed without its star.
The episode will be the third in the upcoming series, following two instalments which have already been written.
Murphy gave no indication of how the character might die, but added that the show was likely to be off air for some time before returning.
"I don't know exactly when we will come back, he admitted.
"We were left with the decision, what do you do? Do you cancel, shut down the show? Come back in December and January? We considered every option, and decided to do what the cast and crew felt best."
The producer added: "What we did was look to the people who loved Cory, who worked with him most, and specifically Lea [Michele].
"This is what they wanted to do. They wanted to be back on the set, where there is a sense of security, and where they can grieve together.
"We had already written A two part Beatles tribute and we'll shoot those and Cory's tribute for that third episode and then we will take a long hiatus and figure out what to do."
Cory, who was 31, was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver last Saturday after failing to check out on time.
A post-mortem revealed that the actor - who had been dating his Glee co-star Lea Michele - died after overdosing on alcohol and heroin.
