Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson has revealed that he was “shocked” by his upcoming storyline in the soap.

The actor, who plays Ste Hay in the show, is set to become a victim of domestic violence after becoming involved in a gay romance with local bad boy Brendan Brady, played by Emmett Scanlan.

However Kieron added that he was also “honoured” to have the chance to be involved in such a hard-hitting plot.

“I was shocked to discover that Ste was to embark on a gay relationship – however, having understood the long-term storyline, I am very excited to have been given this challenge,” he said.

“Brendan is a dangerous character and it will be interesting to see how Ste copes when he himself is the victim of domestic violence.”

Kieron – who recently revealed on This Morning that he is gay – added, “All the viewers know that Ste is now exploring his sexuality and turning gay.

“I feel that it’s relevant and the storyline’s relevant to some situations in my life, then if maybe I can help people who are going through the same thing then it’s a bonus.”

The scenes in which the two characters get together will be screened from October 18.
