On TCM tonight at 9pm

Paul Newman last Friday has seen us all talking about our favourite Newman movies and sharing our personal memories of the blue-eyed screen legend.

We’ve also been celebrating his generosity, his lack of vanity, and his long and happy marriage to his actress wife Joanne Woodward.

Tonight’s crime thriller sees Newman playing New Orleans Private eye Lew Harper hired (by his beloved wife Woodward) to investigate a case of blackmail. It’s a follow-up to the 1966 thriller Harper and was scheduled by TCM weeks before Newman’s death. I’d be inclined to say that this is a little bit spooky had Newman not made so many films. However, it’s also TCM’s competition night movie this week, which is perhaps a little more unnerving. Did they have a premonition or something? Click here for the competition details.

I probably won’t get a chance to catch this movie tonight. However, I will soon get a chance to see some of Newman’s other films because I’ve been told that over the next few days a number of film channels will be altering their schedules to pay tribute to the late star:

Sky Movies Classics is having a tribute from 18.00 on Saturday
Monday 6th is Paul Newman day on TCM and TCM2
Film4 will be showing some Newman films in a week or so.
