Coronation Street villain Pat Phelan is about to get an equally evil sidekick! ITV have released the news Ian Kelsey has started filming on the set of Corrie and is due to appear on our screens as scheming property developer, Vinny, in August.

Ian Kelsey, best known for his roles in other popular British dramas Casualty, Emmerdale and Where the Heart Is, announced his departure from BBC1’s Doctors last year.

His arrival on the Corrie cobbles can only spell trouble for the unsuspecting locals. With Jason Grimshaw safely out of the picture, evil Phelan is ‘kindly’ helping Jason’s mum Eileen, manage her builder son’s business.

In reality bankrupt Phelan (expertly played by Connor McIntyre) is bent on rebuilding his business empire using Jason’s legitimate company as a front. And that’s where Phelan’s former associate comes into the picture…

So far during his time in Coronation Street Phelan has blackmailed Anna Windass into sleeping with him, causing her split with lover Owen Armstrong. He also systematically destroyed former resident Owen’s business and, more recently, conned nosey Norris out of his roof tiles.

While it remains to be seen what Vinny and his old pal Phelan are cooking up, it’s relatively certain it won’t be in the interests of the Corrie community!

According to The Mirror a Corrie insider has said: “The scheming pair will spell trouble for the residents of Coronation Street.”

We can’t wait!

Ian, who turns 50 in December of this year, has memorably starred as Dave Glover on Emmerdale, Patrick Spiller in Casualty, Jack Clayton in Where the Heart Is, DI Richard Mayne in Blue Murder, and Howard Bellamy in Doctors.
