Adapted from the stage play, Filumena, by Eduardo de Filippo, this Italian melodrama is the coming together of De Sica’s neorealism and cinematographic elegance, and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actress at the 1964 Oscars, and won the Golden Globe the same year for Best Foreign Film.
