Emmerdale's Zoe joins The Royal Today

Hot on the heels of soap star Jack Ryder, former Emmerdale actress Leah Bracknell has signed up to star in The Royal Today.

Leah, who was Emmerdale favourite Zoe Tate for almost 16 years, will play matron Jenny Carrington in ITV1's brand new daytime drama.

She joins ex-EastEnder Jack and accomplished theatre actor Paul Nicholas as cast regular when the drama begins filming in Yorkshire in July.

Leah's character causes a stir the minute she arrives as she successfully lands the job popular charge Nurse Adam (Ryder) wanted.

Speaking about her new role, Leah said: "I'm really excited about The Royal Today and can't wait to play Matron. Jenny is a great character who's both mysterious and intriguing. She will definitely keep people guessing."

She added: "I'm really looking forward to working back in Yorkshire with familiar faces."

Keith Richardson, executive producer on The Royal Today, said: "We're thrilled to have Leah on board, and look forward to seeing her in a role that is so far removed from Zoe Tate."
