Caroline Aherne plans to revive Barrymore's career

Former Mrs Merton Caroline Aherne is reportedly planning to help Michael Barrymore make a TV comeback.

Aherne is apparently writing a new C4 quiz, Bolero, specifically for Barrymore to host. She told The Sun that Barrymore had returned from New Zealand for an informal read-through just a day before being held over the swimming pool death of partygoer Stuart Lubbock.

He was released without charge on Friday night.

Aherne said: “Bolero is due to be filmed. We had a great night drawing it all out and practising with him. A day later, he was arrested.”

She added: “I’ve written Bolero for Barrymore and I’ve never seen him in better health.

“He’s been a friend of mine for 15 years. He’s got hope now. He was born to do it.”

A pilot of Bolero, which will co-star Melinda Messenger, will be filmed in the next fortnight. The show centres around a contestant gambling on whether or not their partner can answer a question.
