US star Chloe Sevigny: 'Manchester is grim'

Chloe Sevigny has upset the people of Manchester after branding the city 'one of the grimmest places that I'd ever been in my entire life'.

The American Psycho star spent five months in the UK city while filming new TV drama Hit and Miss, written by Shameless creator Paul Abbott.

Chloe told US magazine Interview: "It was very hard being in Manchester. It was one of the grimmest places that I'd ever been in my entire life, and I was there for so long.

"I hardly had any visitors. I was so alone. And it rained every single day I was there."

The 37-year-old actress was interviewed by Sonic Youth guitarist Kim Gordon for the magazine, and revealed she couldn't wait to leave the city, even though one of her favourite bands, Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks, were playing a gig there.

She said: "They were playing the day after I was leaving, and I was like, 'I've gotta get the hell out of here. I'm not staying one more night just to hear them', so I left."

While Chloe was filming, the Manchester International Festival took place and the Big Love star was spotted at several of the events, including the artists' party at Manchester Town Hall, mingling alongside Blur's Damon Albarn, Rufus Wainwright and actor Willem Dafoe.

She was also seen eating at hip restaurant Australasia, and other venues in the trendy Northern Quarter.

Chloe plays a contract killer who is a pre-op transgender woman in the new show.

A Sky spokesman told The Manchester Evening News: "We've immensely enjoyed working with Chloe and we're really, really proud of the end result and we can't wait for viewers to see Hit And Miss."
