Born: Hackney, 1940

Marriage No 1: Sheila, 1958. One daughter

Marriage No 2: Shirley, 1972. Two sons

Showbusiness career: Began in the 1960s, first as a stuntman, then comedian on cruise ships and in clubs.

TV career: Began in 1970s on the stand-up comedy show, The Comedians. Later moved to ITV children's game show Runaround. Later guest-starred in Doctor Who and Minder.

Pop career: Had a top 10 pop hit in 1975 with a version of The Ugly Duckling

EastEnders: Joined the cast in 1987 as wheeler-dealer Frank Butcher. Left in 2000 when his wife Peggy rumbled his plans to run off with Pat Evans. He returned to the programme twice, in 2002 when Peggy flew to Spain and in 2005 for Janine Butcher's murder trial.

Film career: Mike worked as a stuntman on classic films such as The Dirty Dozen and Casino Royale. Later in his career he appeared in Guy Ritchie hit, Snatch, plus Oh Marbella! with Rik Mayall and Hey Mr DJ.

Retirement: Mike moved to Marbella, Spain, permanently in 2006
