Finland are Eurovision Dance champions

Finland have won the first ever Eurovision Dance Contest, which was held at BBC Television Centre in London on Saturday night.

Dancers Jussi Vaananen and Katja Koukkula, who wowed voters across Europe with a paso doble followed by a moody freestyle dance, scored 132 points. Ukraine finished in second place with 121 points.

Irish duo Mick Donegan and Nicola Byrne - who performed a jive and a traditional dance - came third with 95 points. Poland, with 84 points, finished fourth, while Austria scored 74 points to finish fifth.

However the UK - represented by Strictly Come Dancing twosome Brendan Cole and Camilla Dallerup - failed to impress voters.

The pair - who danced a rumba and a freestyle routine to a medley of James Bond songs - finished in second last place with just 18 points.

They were saved from finishing bottom of the heap by Switzerland, who failed to score a single point.

Finland's success comes just a few months after the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Helsinki, following their first ever victory in the contest after 45 years of participation.

Other countries participating in the show - hosted by Graham Norton and Claudia Winkleman - included Russia, Lithuania, Germany, Netherlands, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Spain and Portugal.
