Strictly: It's ladies' night!

The ladies have taken to the floor in the second edition of Strictly Come Dancing , following the men's dancefloor debut last week.

The seven female celebrities and their partners attempted to impress the judges with either a quickstep or a rumba - with their place in the competition at stake.

Actress Stephanie Beacham kicked things off for the women, and received a thumbs up from the judges for her quickstep with dance partner Vincent Simone.

Len Goodman said the star looked "stunning" on the dancefloor while Craig Revel Horwood described her routine as "a respectable effort".

Letitia Dean and dance partner Darren Bennett took to the floor next, with a mixed response to their rumba. "To me it was a rumba with the handbrake on," Bruno Tonioli said.

TV presenter Kate Garraway, meanwhile, fought off an injury in order to perform the quickstep. Craig Revel Horwood said it was "wonderful" that she had managed to dance but described the routine as being "as heavy as lead".

Singer Aleesha Dixon performed a rumba with Matthew Cutler - and impressed the judges. "Absolutely gorgeous," raved Craig Revel Horwood, while Bruno Tonioli praised the pair for a "very good performance".

Penny Lancaster Stewart and Kelly Brook followed and received similar raves from the judges. "Your interpretation was right where it should have been," Bruno said of Kelly and partner Brendan Cole.

Finally, Gabby Logan and James Jordan danced a quickstep - and once again the judges were enthusiastic. "I think you did a very good job," said Len Goodman. However Arlene Phillips was less keen. "It wasn't as light as it could have been," she told the pair.

As a result, Kelly and Penny are tied at the top of the judges' leader board, with Letitia Dean and Kate Garraway at the bottom.

The result of the public vote will be announced on Sunday night.
