Doctor Who leads NTAs 2007 nominations

Doctor Who leads NTAs 2007 nominations

Doctor Who has scored a trio of nominations at the National TV Awards for the third year running.

Both David Tennant and his new co-star Freema Agyeman have been nominated for acting prizes, with Tennant - who won Most Popular Actor last year - once again up for the award.

Agyeman, meanwhile, is shortlisted for Most Popular Actress, which has been won by her predecessor Billie Piper for the past two years.

The show will also compete with Life On Mars, Shameless and The Bill for the Most Popular Drama award.

Other nominees include The Jeremy Kyle Show, who will take on Top Gear and This Morning in the Most Popular Factual Programme category.

And the Best Talent Show award looks set to be hotly contested, with Any Dream Will Do, Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor among the nominees.

And it's shaping up to be a hard-fought contest between the soaps too. Chester-based soap Hollyoaks is up against Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Eastenders in the category for Best Serial Drama, while its stars Gemma Merna (Carmel McQueen) and James Sutton (John Paul McQueen) have been nominated for Best Newcomer and Best Actor respectively.

The star-studded awards ceremony, hosted by Trevor McDonald, will take place at London's Royal Albert Hall on October 31.
