A former Bad Girls star and Bill actor are to to join Coronation Street as a father and son team.

Jack Ellis - better known as evil warder Jim Fenner in Bad Girls - and Matthew Crompton, who starred as heroic copper Sam Harker in The Bill - will be seen on screens from December 3 as bookies Harry and Dan Mason.

And according to The Sun, the pair - who run a chain of betting shops - will be loveable rogues, who only just stay on the right side of the law - and who have an eye for the ladies.

"We are delighted to have them on board," said a spokesman for the show. "The bookies will no doubt ruffle a few feathers."

Jack appeared in seven series of Bad Girls before his character was murdered.

Matthew left The Bill in 2002 after Sam Harker was injured in the Sun Hill fire and later died.

Jack and Matthew begin filming this week and will make their Coronation Street debut on December 3.
