Kym Ryder: 'We're definitely NOT Peter and Jordan'

Kym Ryder says that she thinks there are plenty of similarities between herself and her Coronation Street character Michelle Connor, but definitely not between her and Jordan.

The mum-of-two is up for the Best Newcomer trophy at the National Television Awards for her portrayal of the Rovers barmaid - and admits that she understands some of what Michelle goes through.

She told The Sun: "There are definitely similarities between me and Michelle. She was 14 when she gave birth to her son Ryan so we were both teen mums.

"Apparently, I can be feisty too - just like Michelle - and we're both very sarcastic, so it's not too much of a stretch to play her. I'm also a little bit touchy, although I might not be as touchy as Michelle.

"And we both come from very tight-knit families."

Kym, 31, has moved her family up north after becoming a Weatherfield regular with husband Jack and her kids Emily and David.

"There is more to life than just being on a TV show. Life up north is all great. We've settled well and Jack's very close to my family," she added.

"Ours is just like any normal relationship - when I finish work I go straight home and we have dinner with the kids.

"We're definitely NOT Peter and Jordan and we're not the perfect couple. We're just happy being us."
