BBC reveals Neighbours replacement

A new Aussie soap, Out Of The Blue, will replace Neighbours on BBC One next year, according to The Mirror.

And the show - set in a beach resort near Sydney - promises to open with a bang, as a group of thirtysomething friends return to the town for a reunion, only for one of their number to be murdered.

"This is an ambitious project that we think will break new ground," the BBC's Fiction Controller Jane Tranter told the paper.

"At the same time it will provide daytime audiences with an intriguing and compelling watch."

BBC One has ordered 130 episodes of the show - which is made by the same production company as Home And Away - and plans to show them in an afternoon slot starting in 2008.

The network lost Neighbours to Five in a bidding war, after screening the hit soap for 21 years.
