Dancing on Ice: Sick Samantha Mumba may quit

Irish former popstar Samantha Mumba may have to quit the new series of Dancing on Ice after she collapsed at home suffering a mystery illness.

The 24-year-old was hoping to relaunch her music career on the back of her participation in the hit BBC1 series, but her involvement's in doubt.

The Mirror reports that doctors hooked her up to a drip after she was suffering severe flu symptoms and dehydration.

A source close to Samantha says she's now resting and is determined to take part in the launch of Dancing on Ice on Sunday.

She's hopeful her appearance will kickstart her career. She has recorded a new single, due for release in May, and is putting the finishing touches on a new album.

Before the illness she said: "I did my first album when I was 16 so it's definitely a different sound. I don't really know how to describe it, it's just poppy songs that I'm into and I think they're good enough, so I'll just leave it up to everybody else and hopefully they'll like it too."

The Dubliner has relocated to Britain from her home in Los Angeles, where she has carved out an acting career, to take part in Dancing on Ice.
