BBC3 to be entirely simulcast on internet (VIDEO)

BBC3 will become the corporation's first multi-platform channel, simulcasting all programmes on the internet.

Danny Cohen, controller, said that the move was aimed at turning the digital channel into the UK's 'most ambitious multiplatform network'.

Interactive ideas will be at the heart of the channel's output, with primetime slots devoted to content supplied by viewers (user-generated content).

Unveiling the changes, which will take shape in February, Cohen said on Tuesday: "BBC3 is aiming to become Britain's most ambitious multiplatform network - combining television and the web into a single, integrated offering.

"At BBC3, we should be known for pioneering risk, and be obsessed with all things new - new talent, new programmes and a new relationship between television and the internet."

Launched in 2003, the channel will also undergo a major rebranding initiative with a pink logo replacing its current blue design and talking animated blobs.

"The thinking behind this rebrand of the channel is that we have, in effect, created a BBC3 world in which our content can move seamlessly between TV, online and mobile," said Cohen.

Revamped news coverage and a new emphasis on drama and entertainment are also key to the 2008 schedule, plus big name signings such as Lily Allen.
