Corrie stars facing cull?

Some of Coronation Street 's best-loved characters could be facing the axe as show chiefs plot a cast cull, according to the papers.

The Sun reports that Corrie bosses are looking to freshen up the soap - and that means that as many as five of the longest-serving actors could be gone by the end of the year.

And that every star will have a meeting with the show's new producer Kim Crowther to discuss their future.

"There is the feeling the show needs a younger and sexier feel," a source told the paper.

"The recent stars have been younger characters like David Platt, but many of the older characters are on huge money and are hardly involved."

There has also been suggestion that some of the longer-serving actors were holding back progression of the show.

"Some of the older stars haven't approved of some of the racier storylines," the source added. "But that's the way the show is going so they are under threat."

"It's not only them. Some of the very new characters who have not worked out will also get the boot."

Could the Rovers Return soon be a quieter place?
