Sound of Music star Connie Fisher has landed the lead role in a new ITV1 drama - about a young woman obsessed with Elvis Presley.
Connie, who landed to role of Maria von Trapp after winning the hit BBC talent search How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, will play Gemma Perkins in Caught in a Trap.
The drama, which has just started filming on location in London, also stars Jim Carter (Cranford), Geraldine James (Little Britain) and ex-EastEnder Joe Absolom.
Elvis-obsessive Gemma is desperate to escape the monotony of her job emptying car parking meters.
But when she starts spending cash from the meters on Elvis memorabilia, Gemma quite literally finds herself caught in a trap.
Connie said: "I am thrilled to have been cast in my first television drama and I am very excited to be in front of the camera."
Producer Jill Green said: "Connie has more than proved herself as an actress in her role as Maria in The Sound of Music. We thought she would be perfect for the role of Gemma Perkins in Caught in a Trap."
She added: "Connie has a vulnerability about her and an interesting face which betrays a range of emotions which we require for this role. She has an accessibility, and is a person we can all relate to."
BBC1's latest talent show, I'd Do Anything, is currently on the hunt for a Nancy and three Olivers to star in the West End stage revival of the popular musical Oliver!
