Coronation St's Dan talks about getting the chop

Coronation Street actor Matthew Crompton has revealed that he's come to terms with the news that his character has been axed from the soap.

Matthew was told by bosses of the ITV1 soap that his character Dan Mason was being given the chop along with his on-screen father, Harry, played by Jack Ellis.

In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Matthew talked about the moment he found out that he and Jack were being axed from the show.

"When we were told the news it was horrible. It's like splitting up with someone when you don't want to.

"You feel sick - just like being dumped."

But he added: "I was really disappointed - but it's not the end of the world."

In fact, Matthew admitted that he would have found it tougher to deal with a relationship break-up.

"If my fiancee Yvette had dumped me, that would have been the end of the world for me - not this.

"Now I just want to carry on and hope for the time being that I'll continue to get good storylines.

"And I hope they'll change their minds - I really do."

Matthew - who previously had roles in The Bill and Casualty - insisted he would have no qualms about returning to the building trade to make ends meets, while looking for his next acting role.

"It won't worry me," he said. "I had a good laugh on the building site and the people I was working with were fantastic.

"Everyone's got to work and pay the rent. Between acting jobs I'd rather get out and do other things than sit on the dole."
