Sound of Music star Connie lands new stage role

Connie Fisher has landed her first stage role since starring as Maria in The Sound Of Music, it has been announced.

The 25-year-old, who shot to fame after winning BBC TV series How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, will tread the boards in They're Playing Our Song.

She will star alongside popular impressionist Alistair McGowan.

The comedy musical is undergoing its first major London revival since the original West End production in 1980, which starred Tom Conti and Gemma Craven.
The semi-autobiographical story is based on the relationship between composer Marvin Hamlisch and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager.

The pair co-wrote the Bond theme Nobody Does It Better and Bayer Sager, who has collaborated with Neil Diamond, Bette Midler and Bob Dylan, also received an Oscar for Arthur's Theme from the 1982 Dudley Moore film.

McGowan's recent West End appearances include Cabaret, The Mikado and Little Shop Of Horrors.

The musical is due to run from August 4 to September 28 at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London.
