Big Brother: Police probe spitting row

Big Brother housemate Dennis McHugh has been quizzed by police following his removal from the house, according to reports.

The BBC News website has said that the 23-year-old dance teacher - who was booted from the house on Friday after spitting in the face of fellow housemate Mohamed - was questioned under caution on Saturday.

However they have said that no further action will be taken against Dennis at the moment.

"Officers have now spoken with a 23-year-old man from Edinburgh in connection with an alleged incident," a spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Police told the website.

"He was spoken to under caution, and at this stage no further action has been taken. Officers will speak with the potential complainant as and when he leaves the house at some point in the future."

She added that Dennis was not arrested and did not go to a police station.

The argument flared after Rex defaced a painting Jennifer had done, with Dennis lashing out after Mohamed defended Rex and branded Jennifer an "attention seeker".

A source at the police station in Borehamwood, Herts - near the location of the Big Brother house - told The Sun earlier that Endemol and the show had been co-operating with them.

"Someone spitting at another person is classed as common assault," the insider said.

Meanwhile, the Mirror reports that bookies have slashed the odds on the show being pulled before its scheduled end date of September 5, to 6-1.

Ofcom have received 1,894 complaints about the series so far, including 31 about the spitting incident, which was shown on Friday's highlights show.

"We've always had rows," a show insider told the paper.

"But this year it's gone too far - and we're only three weeks in."

Dennis was the second housemate to be removed by Big Brother, following Alexandra's departure last week for unacceptable behaviour.
