Daisies, Betty on Emmys long list

Pushing Daisies and Ugly Betty are among the shows that will fight it out for nominations at this year's Emmy Awards, it has been revealed.

The shows are among 10 announced as semi-finalists after ballots of members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

It is the first time that the long lists of semi-finalists have been revealed to the public. A shortlist of five shows will be announced next month ahead of the awards ceremony in September.

Other shows in the running in the best comedy category include the US version of The Office, the Larry David comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm and flashy Hollywood saga Entourage, as well as cult New Zealand show Flight Of The Conchords.

The 10 semi-finalists in the drama show category were also made public, with Lost, House and Grey's Anatomy among those making the list. Lost is a previous winner of the award while the other two shows have been nominated in the past.

Others competing for a place on the drama shortlist include 60s set saga Mad Men, serial killer drama Dexter and the historical epic The Tudors, which was shown on BBC2 earlier this year.
